Fifth and final round of international downhill series to be held on the classic World Cup track this weekend. Titles not decided yet.

We are close to the final act of the first season of Unior Downhill Cup. This Weekend, September 23rd and 24th, Maribor’s Pohorje mountain will host fifth and final round of the series. Pohorje mountain bike club will be holding the DH Visit Pohorje 2017 race, a Slovenian and Croatian national points series and UCI Class 2 event.<\/p>\n

The ranking<\/h3>\n

Elite categories leaders and best Slovenian riders this season, Monika Hrastnik<\/strong> (Blackthorn) in women’s and Jure \u017dabjek<\/strong> (Unior Tools Team) in men’s category, missed round 4 at Sori\u0161ka planina because of the World Championships, but remained on top of the standings. Both national champions, iXS European Cup champions and both ranked 10th in UCI rankings, don\u2019t have a comfortable lead before Sunday\u2019s runs. They will need to dig deep again, especially \u017dabjek who is being chased by the experienced Miran Vauh<\/strong> (Blackthorn), a specialist for technical and slippery tracks. If Vauh wins both semi-final and final and \u017dabjek finished third in both, the title goes to Vauh.<\/p>\n

\nMonika Hrastnik<\/h6>\n

It will be even more intense in junior men\u2019s race. Rudi Pintar<\/strong> (Sinter Brakes Team), another iXS EDC champion, had a slow start in the series. He is in second place, 61 points behind the leader Matic Kokelj<\/strong> (Wolf Racing Team). If Rudi finishes first and Matic second in both runs this Sunday, the order will not change.<\/p>\n

The track’s reputation by itself usually attracts an interesting field to the Maribor race. There are riders from 8 countries among the first registered and riders from Austria will probably represent the strongest challenge to the locals.<\/p>\n

New old track<\/h3>\n

For this occasion the Pohorje Bike Park has rebuilt the classic track from Luka hut to the gondola’s bottom station. The 2125m track with a 465m drop which has previously hosted World Cup races, will be opened for public right after the event. There is a new section by the end of the last forest part, but… \u00bbIt depends on the weather if the whole new section will be packed enough to be used in the race. We may have to avoid some parts\u00ab says event director Iztok Kvas.<\/p>\n

Flowtrail will be open for park guests during the event weekend. It runs close to the race track near the bottom so park guests can also catch some race action.<\/p>\n

The schedule<\/h3>\n

Official training takes place on Saturday from 2 to 6pm. On Sunday the track will be open for practice from 9 to 11am. Semi-final run follows at 12 and final run starts at 2.30pm<\/strong>.<\/p>\n
